  • Course Description: Middle school math courses focus on providing students with a solid understanding of fundamental concepts, developing problem-solving skills, and fostering positive attitudes toward mathematics. These courses set the stage for success in high school math courses. Students will use multiple problem-solving approaches to tackle real-life problems and be given opportunities to show off their growing math skills in projects that apply to their lives. The theme of 6th grade math is Sports and Recreation. Each unit begins with a discussion forum where students use their prior knowledge to share their thinking about current topics. Throughout the lessons, they interact with manipulatives to make abstract concepts concrete, then hone their skills with interactive practices. In a course-long project, students will use their growing skills to analyze the real-world problems involved in planning a recreation facility.
